The 36th Annual Medieval Festival will be held on Sunday, October 2, 2022, at Fort Tryon Park in Upper Manhattan. The event is sponsored by the Washington Heights and Inwood Development Corp. and New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.
The festival is held in the area surrounding the world-famous Cloisters Museum a branch of the Metropolitan Museum of Art devoted to the art and architecture of medieval Europe.
The park offers vistas of the Hudson River and the picturesque Palisades.
The festival originated with the Education Department of the Cloisters Museum. An offshoot of a summer education program, it grew in attendance until it was too large to subsidize.
• The festival started in 1983.
• Organized and staffed by volunteers with WHIDC and Parks.
• Now in its 36th year it is the largest cultural event in a New York City Park.
The Medieval Festival at Fort Tryon Park is a one-day event that attracts between 45-65,000 people. Residents from all over New York City participate with 10% coming from Westchester, Rockland, New Jersey and Connecticut.
